Hamro Palo celebrates adolescent girls and their – power, courage, and leadership.
Every year on 11 October, the International Day of the Girl is celebrated throughout the world. Hamro Palo is championing girls’ education and empowerment since 2012 through our flagship program – HER TURN. While we celebrate girls’ leadership every day, we want to make the international girls’ day more special. This year, under the theme, “My voice, our equal future”, we want to amplify girls’ voices and leadership through various initiatives.

Here are two ways you can join us in this celebration.

1. Send us your art on the theme “COVID-19 and its effect on Nepali girls’ lives”

  • Only girls between the age-group of 12 -18 years can participate.
  • We accept art in any form (digital art, sketch, doodles, painting, music, poems, song, photo, video, story, essay*)
  • We do not accept the submission of previously published work.

*Essay and story must be a minimum of 500 words to a maximum of 1000 words. We only accept text files or files in .doc or .docx format (such as from Microsoft). You can submit your essay and story in your mother tongue or Nepali or English.

The best 3 arts selected by a panel of judges will receive a cash prize of NPR 2000 each, a creative workshop with experts, and gift vouchers from Nepali brands. The results will be announced on 9 October 2020.

2. Apply or nominate girls that inspire you through their demonstrated leadership in their community for Her Turn Leadership Award.

On the occasion of International Day of The Girl 2020, Hamro Palo will be awarding five girls who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and are making remarkable contributions in their community.


  • Girls between the age group of 12-18 years
  • Must be a Nepali citizen
  • Should have demonstrated leadership and made contribution for the improvement of their school or community.

A panel of judges will select five girls based on the application, interview, and reference verification. Each selected champion will receive a cash prize of NPR 10,000, a leadership course with experts, and gift vouchers from Nepali brands. The deadline for the application/nomination submission is 30 September 2020, and the results will be announced on 11 October 2020.
