We are thrilled to attend the Women Deliver 2019 conference in Vancouver, taking place on June 3-6. It’s “the world’s largest conference on gender equality and the health, rights, and wellbeing of girls and women.” There will be thousands of change makers, activists, advocates, researchers, decision makers, and implementers discussing the challenges, solutions, and ideas. You can look through the schedule here.

We are especially looking forward to attending sessions on youth engagement, working with boys and men to advance gender equity, child marriage, and menstrual hygiene. We have already attended a fantastic side event titled “Mental Health – Break the Stigma” organized by Global Girl Power, with inspiring speakers from Edna Adan Hospital, The Asia Foundation, The Hunger Project, and TheaCare.

In a few days, our own Anita Thapa will participate in a Pecha Kucha session organized by Purposeful Productions, titled “Let’s talk about it. Period!”. The session will cover various global and local aspects of menstrual health. Participants will discuss youth led solutions and approaches from their countries: Kenya, the Netherlands, Nepal, Poland and Uganda. The session takes place on Tuesday, June 4th, at 3-4 PM – stop by if you are in Vancouver!

Yachin Sherpa, our Master Trainer, says this about her participation in the conference: “Through participating, I will be empowering myself to empower women and girls – especially adolescent brides and mothers deprived of their fundamental rights like education, health care, and equal status in their communities. I recently worked closely with adolescent mothers and learned their real problems and real consequences of child marriage. I want to share what I learned from them and hope to use the skills I learn at this event to highlight their voices in the future.”

Our participation is possible thanks to the support of our two long term partners – With and For Girls Collective and MATCH International Women’s Fund, and funded by EMpower. Big thank you!
